Fees and Funding

Tuition Fees

In line with other teacher training providers offering both QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), the fees for Teach Maidenhead courses are £9,250 for UK students  (Fees quoted for the 2023-24 academic year). For International students the cost is £22,350.

Students who have previously graduated from an undergraduate course at the University of Reading may be eligible for an alumni discount amounting to £1,500.  

This discount will also be available to Reading alumnus undertaking a PGCE with QTS qualification with one of our school partners.

Please note that the previous course studied at the university must have been at a lower level (i.e. undergraduate and not Masters or PhD).

 

Fees are to be paid to the relevant training institute upon commencement of the course. Trainees are eligible for student loans to cover the fees, and also for maintenance loans, ranging from c. £4,000 - c £10,000. Bursaries 

Postgraduate teaching bursaries and scholarships are only available for the subjects listed below. You cannot receive both a teaching bursary and a scholarship.

You must be eligible for student finance to receive a bursary or scholarship (unless you’re training to teach physics or languages).

To be eligible for a bursary, you’ll need at least one of the following:

You do not need to apply for a bursary. If you’re eligible, you’ll automatically receive it.

*For Teach Maidenhead you must be able to train to teach two out of the 3 following languages. (French, German and Spanish only)

Scholarships 

Scholarships of £30,000 are awarded to the most gifted trainees in chemistry, maths and physics and £27,000 in languages in partnership with the professional subject associations. Scholarships are awarded in place of a bursary and the relevant professional bodies set their own eligibility criteria. These are usually available to applicants with a first class degree, 2.1, masters or PhD

Scholarships are offered by independent institutions. They set their own eligibility criteria and you’ll need to apply through the relevant scholarship body:

Institute of Mathematics & its applications, Institute of Physics, Royal Society of Chemistry, and the British Council.
