Why train with us

Teach Maidenhead (University of Reading ITE Hub) is the foremost teacher training provider west of London offering a fantastic place to work and learn. It provides a unique school based learning opportunity in partnership with the University of Reading. The University of Reading’s Institute of Education is a highly regarded and established provider of high-quality training and research. Ranked 9th in the UK for Education, (The Guardian University League Table 2024) it has been consistently in the top 10 for over a decade. Committed to developing caring, reflective, professional teachers, the University has well-established partnerships with over 400 schools in Berkshire and the surrounding area. Ofsted report that the “effective relationships with partner schools support the development of high quality teaching and trainees that are well-prepared to work in the region’s schools.”

The partnership consists of six secondary schools (all rated outstanding or good) overseen by Furze Platt School and includes a service that supports children in mainstream educational settings with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The partnership is made up of academies, coeducational, single sex schools as well as a church school  and a free school. All teach students from ages 11-18, giving trainees the opportunity to teach the entire secondary age range. The schools are conveniently located, meaning trainees can engage with more than one school in the partnership and experience a diverse and contrasting range of teaching and training practices.

The schools are thriving and vibrant communities with enthusiastic, motivated students and very high outcomes. Students across the partnership are happy, friendly and well-behaved and are at the heart of everything we do. Both staff and students are ambitious and confident.  Students and staff warmly welcome trainee teachers and recognise their valuable contribution to the school community.  Successful trainees will go on to take up their first teaching post in a Teach Maidenhead school wherever possible, with opportunities for further professional development and rapid career progression where appropriate.

The support provided to trainees is first rate, with intensive subject-based training from experts at the University of Reading and close mentoring from experienced teachers in each school who have a proven track record in training and professional development. Our weekly professional studies training sessions involve all trainees, and are led by experts from across the Teach Maidenhead group.
